Fur Your Health: Meet Patty, A Shy Girl Worth Getting To Know

In a world obsessed with convenience and instant gratification, we often forget that some of the best things in life are built over time. Sourdough starters. Gardens. Friendships. Community. And, perhaps most importantly, trust.
Trust is one of those things that doesn’t show up overnight. Sure, you can meet someone and click instantly, or feel a sense of comfort with a person or place within minutes. But trust takes those early sparks and turns them into something far more meaningful. It deepens and enriches bonds over time through a series of small moments where safety is proven again and again. It’s late-night conversations with a friend, spilling secrets you swore you’d never say out loud. A partner who shows up exactly when they said they would. Being defended when you’re not even in the room. These little moments stack up and build something steady over time. And once trust is established, the connection shifts, and you’re left with something far greater than instant chemistry: knowing that, without question, you’re safe in each other’s company.
This, of course, isn’t exclusive to human relationships. Take, for example, an animal shelter. The most outgoing and confident dogs are generally the first to be adopted, while the quiet, more reserved, or even frightened ones are easy to miss. But much like in our own lives, the connections that take time to build are often the most meaningful.
Trust-building animals aren’t instant best friends. They don’t run up to every stranger expecting belly rubs or treats. They watch, wait, and slowly decide whether the world around them is safe. And when someone is patient enough to earn that trust, the connection that follows can be incredibly beautiful.
That’s exactly the kind of dog Patty is.
As a 2-3 year old, 25-pound Patterdale Terrier mix, Patty was surrendered to a shelter with her litter of five-week-old puppies after another dog attacked them. Thankfully, all of the pups have since been adopted and are thriving. Patty, however, is still waiting for her own forever home more than a year later.
We can only speculate as to what Patty has been through in her life, but she is understandably timid around people. In fact, it took about five months in foster care before she was able to relax and show her true personality. But with patience and a calm environment, Patty has slowly started to feel safe again. Now she needs that same stability in a forever home to thrive, preferably one with another confident dog to help guide her, and someone who understands just how rewarding earned trust can be.
Patty’s ideal companion is someone who understands that good things take a little time. Maybe you’re the kind of person who doesn’t mind letting a relationship unfold naturally instead of expecting an instant connection. If you’re patient and find joy in the small wins, like the first time a shy dog asks for attention or confidently trots over for a treat, Patty could be a great match to share your life with. Watching her continue to grow and gain confidence will undoubtedly be one of the most satisfying parts of having her around.
If you’d like to meet Patty and see if it’s a match or want information on other adoptable pets, call or text Amber at Addicted 2 Animals at 702-203-4134. Every great friendship starts with a simple introduction.
